Black Flag formed in Hermosa Beach, California in 1976, led by guitarist Greg Ginn. Henry Rollins joined as vocalist in 1981. Damaged was released that year on Ginn's SST Records, after MCA refused to distribute it — they called it "immoral." "Rise Above" opens the album. Damaged became one of the definitive American hardcore records.
