07. Pom Pom Squad feat. Matthew Caws of Nada Surf — Popular
Pom Pom Squad is the project of Mia Berrin, a New York musician and songwriter. "Popular" was released December 15, 2021 — a cover of Nada Surf's 1996 single of the same name, featuring Nada Surf frontman Matthew Caws. The music video was filmed at Bayonne High School in New Jersey, the same location as the original 1996 video. Nada Surf's "Popular" was built around a self-help book for teenagers and became an unlikely alt-rock staple. 3:26 at 95 BPM.
Placement: Third in the indie run. The Matthew Caws appearance is a thread through the show — last week closed with Nada Surf's "Blonde on Blonde." Not announced on air.
