Savage Garden — I Want You

Breakout single from Savage Garden's self-titled 1997 debut. Built on a rapid-fire, half-rapped verse delivery and a list of surreal romantic images ("you're the sun in my morning, wonderful new beginning"), it's one of the more unusual pop hits of the late 90s in terms of vocal cadence. Its melodic/vocal cadence is the direct point of comparison behind the Haim connection at track 12 — HAIM's "Now I'm in It" is often noted as strikingly close in melody to this song.
