Stars — Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (Final Fantasy remix)

From Stars' first remix album Do You Trust Your Friends? (2007, Arts & Crafts), which handed all 13 tracks from Set Yourself on Fire (2004) to collaborator artists. Final Fantasy is the project of Owen Pallett (now recording under his own name), a Toronto-based violinist and composer closely associated with the Arts & Crafts scene and long-time Arcade Fire collaborator. The original 'Your Ex-Lover Is Dead' opens Set Yourself on Fire with the spoken line from Torquil Campbell's father: 'When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire.' Pitchfork ranked the original number 298 on their Best Songs of the 2000s list. Pallett said he was 'only OK' with his remix, aiming for a 'hanging out at the Pacific Mall' vibe.
