22. The Dandy Warhols — She Sells Sanctuary
Release date: 2007 Track: 15 of 20 Key / BPM: Am / 135
She Sells Sanctuary was originally recorded by The Cult in 1985. One of the defining rock songs of the eighties.
The Dandy Warhols covered it for the Bridging the Distance compilation in 2007 — keeping the churning guitar riff and hypnotic momentum while running it through their psychedelic indie filter.
Almost nobody who hears this version realises it is a cover. That slight dissonance is the point.
Both tracks in the final segment are in Am. The key change from The Beat lands like an exhale. The right note to end on.
