Facts:
The band's original name, Pogue Mahone, anglicises the Irish póg mo thóin ("kiss my arse"), a phrase drawn from James Joyce's Ulysses.
"Fairytale of New York," their duet with Kirsty MacColl, is regularly voted the UK and Ireland's favourite Christmas song and still re-charts every December.
Shane MacGowan's death in November 2023 prompted the surviving members to reunite in 2024 for anniversary shows with guest vocalists.
